Otago Museum
Located adjacent to Otago University in North Dunedin, Otago Museum is
an excellent place to visit for those wishing to find out more about
the region.
The museum boasts excellent collections on polynesia, and on
pre-European history, including an impressive Tangata Whenua Gallery, which
includes an extensive collection of southern maori material.
The top floor houses a collection
of artifacts from Dunedin's maritime history, including a rather
alarming early diving suit. Nearby is the marine biology section, with
accurate diaramas of the nearby ocean life.
One exhibit that should not be missed is the Otago history hall,
with it's exhibits on the 2.5 metre tall moa, the greatest bird that ever lived.
